Marlette Buchanan
Marlette
Buchanan has been described as a gifted artist with a ‘divine talent’. She
has contributed to many collaborations ranging from theater, to recordings, to
opera. Her stage credits include Ragtime (Sarah), Once on this Island
(Asaka), Working (Cleaning Woman), and Black Nativity.
Marlette
has recorded with a broad range of artists including Ziggy Marley, Charlie
Daniels, and Larnelle Harris. She’s recorded and toured nationally as a lead
soloist with the Fisk Jubilee Singers and can be heard in the documentary
entitled The Freedom Riders. Marlette’s operatic roles include
Fiordiligi and Despina (Cosi fan Tutte), Antonia (Tales of Hoffman)
and Marenka (Bartered Bride).
As a preview artist for Seattle Opera she has been seen as Minnie (Fanciulla
del West) and reprised some of her previous roles. A regional finalist with
the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Ms. Buchanan also was a
finalist in the national MacAllister Awards and the Eleanor Lieber Awards. Her
concert performances include Carmina Burana, the African Sanctus,
Sphor’s Sechs Deutsches Lieder and Carter’s Spiritual Cantata.
Marlette is a graduate of Boston
University (MM) and Fisk University (BA) where she graduated Summa cum Laude.
She is a member of the voice faculty at Pacific Lutheran University and serves
on the Board of Governors for The Recording Academy (presenters of the GRAMMY).
